The top 10 reasons why so many people are becoming raving fans of printable wall art. Do you want to save money and have an easy way for beautiful home decor? Read on!
But first: do you know what printable art is?
Don’t worry if you don’t! I myself just discovered it not too long ago and instantly became a fan! Here’s what printable wall art is and why it’s awesome:
What is printable art?
Instead of buying a physical canvas or a framed poster you buy a digital file. Yes, a simple JPG file – just like the photos on your computer or phone. BUT – this file is very high resolution and quality.
How do you go from the digital file to something you can put on your wall?
There are three possibilities to transform the file into a printed piece of art:
- You can print it yourself at home! If you have a printer – you can print the art easily at home. Now obviously this only works for small prints (unless you have a huge plotting machine at home 🙂 ). If you work from an office you might be able to use their printer too. Most corporate offices have large laser printing machines that can print bigger sizes of paper.
- You can take your file to a local print shop. I am a big believer in supporting your local community and businesses, so this is my preferred option if you can’t print it at home. Just bring the file to a small business photo shop or a chain like FedEx, Costco, Walgreens, CVS, Office Max, Staples, etc. and have them print it. They normally print it super fast – for most you could send it in the evening and pick it up the next day when you run errands.
- You send it to an online print provider. There’s many out there that ship to different countries with different conditions and offer different services. A quick google search will help you and enable you to find a print provider within minutes.
Why should I choose printable art?
1) It’s cheaper!
Printable Art costs only a couple of dollars, compared to 30+ dollars for a physical product. Sure, if you don’t print it at home, you have to add a couple more dollars, but it’s still cheaper, so perfect for DIY people that operate on a budget!
2) You don’t need to wait for shipping!
When you print it yourself or locally you don’t have weeks of wait – especially now during COVID and post office delays. You are in control and can have the art up in a matter of minutes for printing it at home or maybe a day for local printing.
3) you can buy from artists on the other side of the world!
Online marketplaces opened up the market for artists from all over the world! If you fell in love with the art style of tribal villages in Kenya or you love simplistic Scandinavian Wall Art – you don’t have to read through their terms and which countries they ship to. Digital products are available for immediate download worldwide!
4) You decide the size of the art for your space!
When you buy a digital file most sellers provide you with a lot of different sizes. I give my customers files in ratios so they can print the files in 30+ different sizes. That way you can find the right size of art for your space.
Plus you can change your mind later and print it again if you don’t like it.
5) You decide the size of your art for your frames and region!
There’s nothing more annoying than falling in love with that one piece of art from a European artist but they only offer their art in CM that doesn’t fit American Inch Format frames.
No problem with digital art! Many sellers offer so many sizes that you can find the right one for your existing frame and for the right geographical region you’re in.
I even go as far as offering free resizes for my customers – simply because I love them so much and know the feeling of falling in love with that one piece of art and wanting to make it work.
6) You have the full options on the medium – Canvas? Poster? Pillowcase?
You can have the art printed on whatever you want. If you like it why not print it on a poster and a pillowcase? Or you can have it printed on a notebook and a mug. Or a metal print. The options are endless.
The artist would never be able to provide you with all the options you could possibly think of, but online print providers can and it’s up to you how you’d like it.
7) You can print it more than once!
I hinted at this with point 4 already but the file is yours – you can print it as many times as you want. That can come in handy when you want more than one medium such as a poster and a pillow, or 6 mugs for your family – and you only pay once – a few dollars for the file.
The only thing that’s not allowed is re-selling it – in these cases separate commercial licenses can be bought from a lot of artists.
8) You can use it seasonally!
Are you one of those creative people who decorate their homes according to season? Wouldn’t it be great to also switch out the art and always be on point with seasonal colors? You can probably buy 4 printable art files for the price of just one physical product. Hooray for having the perfectly decorated home every season!
9) You can use the digital file too!
Why not use the art as a background on your phone? Or a screensaver on your computer? Since you have the digital version of the art you can get creative and use it on electronic devices too!
10) You can get creative with it!
I’ve seen the most creative uses of printable art ranging from using it in school theater plays to party accessories for baby showers, birthday parties or weddings or for stationary surprises such as printing it on a notebook cover for first time school kids, kids going to college, etc.
